الدكتور Mehmet Orçun Akdemir عضو في الجمعية التركية لطب العيون. نشر 24 مقالة في مجلات دولية مُحكَّمة، كثير منها مفهرس في SCI/SCI‑E. وله 17 بحثًا في مجلات وطنية مُحكَّمة. وقدّم 5 عروضًا تقديمية في اجتماعات دولية.

يتركز عمله على القرنية والجزء الأمامي من العين. تشمل المجالات: القرنية المخروطية؛ DALK وPKP وDSAEK؛ الميكانيكا الحيوية للقرنية؛ والربط المتقاطع للقرنية. يدرس أيضًا جراحة الزرق بعد زراعة القرنية، وأمراض سطح العين والتقشر الكاذب، وطب العيون العصبي والشبكية. ساهم في ترجمة أربعة كتب في طب العيون. تقارن دراساته نتائج DALK وPKP في القرنية المخروطية، وتحلل الميكانيكا الحيوية بعد DALK، وتقيّم سُمك الطُعم بعد DSAEK، وتُقارن بين استئصال الترابيق وصمام أحمد في الزرق التالي لـ PKP.
