Last year, I selected the maternity package at The Portland Hospital and, while my clinical experience over the course of nine months was exceptional—particularly under the care of Dr. Dana and the wider maternity team—I am extremely disappointed with the conduct of the finance department.
Despite self-funding my care and settling all charges in full—amounting to nearly £20,000—I began receiving alarming communications approximately one month after giving birth. These included emails and text messages claiming I had outstanding payments, some accompanied by threats of legal action.
What is particularly concerning is the inconsistency and inaccuracy of these demands. The initial request was for £10,000, which was later acknowledged as a mistake and revised to £3,000. That figure has since inexplicably dropped to £60. I have repeatedly provided proof of payment, including detailed documentation, yet these erroneous demands persist without resolution.
This ongoing situation raises serious concerns regarding the internal handling of patient accounts. I sincerely hope this is a case of administrative oversight, but the pattern of behavior suggests a potential breach in financial integrity that must be investigated urgently.
It is incredibly disappointing that such a wonderful maternity journey has been overshadowed by this distressing experience. I feel compelled to share my experience more widely in the interest of transparency and to encourage accountability.
